Lavender Rose is a graphic design student, based in Derbyshire. They are a 19 year old, non-binary artist. Lavender is very present in the LGBTQ+ community, they are a part of many LGBTQ+ youth groups, being both non-binary and panromantic.  Lavender is extremely passionate about giving a voice to those who can’t be heard, spreading awareness to causes and movement is important as well as giving appreciation to the underappreciated. They love to embrace culture, diversity and identities in their work.

Lavender has always known they loved art from a very young age, as soon as they could walk they could draw. They grew up embracing their artistic side; now they’re on their way to becoming a graphic designer and illustrator. In 2010, a piece of Lavender’s art, ‘The Harbour’ was included in an exhibition for the Saatchi Art Gallery. Lavender was also invited to lead an art class as well as host an extracurricular art club in primary school by teachers as a result of the exhibition. Additionally Lavender has attended People Express, in which they were awarded an award. Lavender aspires to become a graphic designer, after finishing university. They would also like to publish a graphic novel and start their own business.

Lavender’s work is heavily inspired by their passion for activism and the need for change; a lot of their work incorporates diversity, culture, causes and movements. Colour is an incredibly important factor of Lavender’s work, they see colour as a way to express emotions that text or imagery can’t express. Lavender’s latest project, ‘Utopia’ is inspired by sustainability, diversity and anti-classism. The project ‘Utopia’ is to create the branding for a coffee shop/gallery; Lavender wants to create a branding that could create a welcoming and creative space for people to buy reasonably priced, exotic coffee that comes with an experience.

Lavender has learnt a lot in the few years they have professionally created art, but since working on the ‘Utopia’ project they expanded their taste and allowed them to feel a sense of freedom and excitement when working on their pieces. They have also improved their ability to use Photoshop and Illustrator. Lavender has gotten a lot more comfortable with product design, merchandise design and brand identity since they started their graphic design course.

Lavender has many styles but is currently focusing on a more editorial style for their ‘self identity’ project. They are focusing on developing their use of mock-ups, brand identity- especially creating an attractive logo that can be shortened and incorporates illustration.
